A surrogate carries a pregnancy and delivers a child created from the egg and sperm of the intended parents. A donor egg, donor sperm or donated embryos may also be used. An important distinction with this type of surrogacy is that the gestational surrogate is not genetically related to the child and acts only as a gestational carrier for the pregnancy.
